Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. In the news, attention was paid to her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
